Drug Uses

Zyloprim is a medicine used to reduce the production of uric acid in the body. It is used in the treatment of gout, increased levels of uric acid caused by cancer treatment, and kidney stones caused by high levels of uric acid.

How Taken

Zyloprim is available as a tablet that is taken orally once a day after a meal. You should drink at least eight glasses of water or other fluids each day during the treatment with Zyloprim unless your doctor advised you something else. You should avoid usage of excessive amounts of vitamin C supplements or fruit juice while you use Zyloprim because excessive amounts of vitamin C may enhance the risk of developing kidney stones.

Warnings/Precautions

Before you take Zyloprim, you should inform your doctor if you have kidney or liver disease. Your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Zyloprim falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if is harmful for a fetus. Talk to your doctor before using Zyloprim in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding because Zyloprim passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Discontinue the usage of Zyloprim and search for medical help if you experience any of the following serious adverse effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives); blood in your urine or pain when you urinate; a rash; eye irritation; fever, chills, or joint aches; or severe nausea or vomiting. Other less serious adverse effects may occur. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Zyloprim if you experience upset stomach or diarrhea; headache, dizziness, or drowsiness; or an acute attack of gouty arthritis. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Zyloprim should be store at 15-25°C (59-77°F) in a dry place. Protect it from light.

Overdose

Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose. The symptoms of an overdose are not known.

More Information

Be cautious when you drive, operate machinery or perform any other dangerous activity because Zyloprim may cause drowsiness. Avoid the above-mentioned activities if you experience drowsiness. Avoid consuming alcohol because it may worse your condition.
