Zithromax is a medicine used for treatment of various types of bacterial infections like bronchitis, pneumonia, tonsillitis, skin infections, ear infections, and sexually transmitted diseases.

How Taken

Zithromax is available as a capsule, tablet and liquid and is taken orally. The medicine is commonly taken once per day for a period of 2-5 days. You should take Zithromax exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor. The liquid should be shaken before usage. Take the capsules and tablets with a full glass of water. You should not discontinue the usage of Zithromax even if you feel better and without a consultation with your doctor. The liquid should be taken at least one hour before a meal and two hours after a meal. Take the tablets and the capsule with food to avoid stomach problems.

Warnings/Precautions

Before you take Zithromax, you should inform your doctor if you have liver disease. If you suffer from any of the above-mentioned conditions, you may not been able to use Zithromax or your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Zithromax falls into the FDA pregnancy category B which means in is unlikely to be harmful for a fetus. Consult your doctor before using Zithromax in case you are pregnant. Missed Dose

Possible Side Effects

Discontinue the usage of Zithromax and search for medical help if you experience any of the following serious adverse effects: an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives); or liver damage (yellowing of the skin or eyes, nausea, abdominal pain or discomfort, unusual bleeding or bruising, severe fatigue). Other less serious adverse effects may occur. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Zithromax if you have nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain; unusual dizziness, fatigue, or headache; vaginal yeast infection; a rash; or increased sensitivity to sunlight. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Zithromax tablets should be stored at a temperature between 15° to 30° C (59° to 86°F). The suspension should be stored between 5° to 30°C (41° to 86°F) and should be thrown away when full dosing is completed or within 10 days. It should be shaken before each use. Keep Zithromax in tightly-closed containers.

Overdose

Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose. An overdose of Zithromax may be signaled by nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort.

You should avoid a longer exposure to sunlight because Zithromax may enhance the skin sensitivity to sunlight. It is recommended that you use sunscreen and wear protective clothing if you need to go outside.
