Drug Uses

Zanaflex is a muscle relaxant that is used to stimulate relaxation of some muscles in the body. It is used to relief the spasms and increased muscle tone associated with some medicinal conditions like multiple sclerosis or spinal injury. Zanaflex may also be used for other purposes. How Taken

Zanaflex is available as a tablet that is taken orally. The common dosage is two or three tablets per day. You should strictly follow the instructions on the prescription label. You should take Zanaflex exactly as directed. Do not take more or less of it or take it more often than prescribed by your doctor.

Warnings/Precautions

Before you take Zanaflex, you should notify your doctor if you have liver disease, have kidney disease, have low blood pressure or you are on medication to treat high blood pressure; or you are taking birth control pills. If you suffer from any of the above-mentioned conditions, you may not been able to use Zanaflex or your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Zanaflex falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if is harmful for a fetus. Talk to your doctor before using Zanaflex in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding because it is not clear if Zanaflex passes into breast milk.

Missed Dose

If you are taking several doses a day, you should take the missed dose as soon as you remember. The rest of the doses for the day should be taken at regular time intervals. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Inform your doctor if any of the following symptoms are severe or do not disappear: dizziness, upset stomach, vomiting, tingling sensation in the arms, legs, hands, and feet, dry mouth, and increased muscle spasms. Contact your doctor immediately in case you develop yellowing of the skin or eyes, unexplained flu-like symptoms.

Storage

Zanaflex should be stored in its original tightly-closed container. Keep the medicine away from children. Store Zanaflex at a room temperature and protect it from excessive hear and moisture (do not keep it in the bathroom). You should throw away any outdated medicine.

Overdose

Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose. Symptoms of an overdose of Zanaflex are not known but they may include unconsciousness and irregular breathing.

More Information

Be cautious when you drive, operate machinery or perform any other dangerous activity because Zanaflex may cause dizziness or drowsiness. Avoid the above-mentioned activities if you experience drowsiness or dizziness. You may also experience dizziness when you change your position from sitting or lying to rising. You may prevent a possible fall if you rise slowly. It is recommended that you avoid consummation of alcohol and usage of other muscle relaxants, sleep or anxiety medicine, and pain medicines during a treatment with Zanaflex because they may enhance the drowsiness and dizziness caused by the medicine. You should not take any other medicines without a consultation with your doctor.
