Drug Uses

Renova is a medicine used for treatment of wrinkles, brown spots and surface roughness on the face. It is also used to treat stretch marks as those that appear of the abdominal wall in women after a pregnancy. Renova may also be used for treatment of acne. Renova is applied on the skin, and then it binds to specific cell receptors. The medicine activates the cell receptors, which is followed by a modification in gene expression, subsequent protein synthesis and growth and differentiation of the cell. The result is modification of the epidermal cells and production of new skin. Clinical studies have shown increased production of collagen in the treated areas of the skin.

How Taken

A thin layer of Renova is applied on the affected areas once a day before you go to bed. You may use a gauze pad or cotton swab for the application of the liquid. You should wash your hands immediately after you have applied the medicine. A more frequent usage of the medicine and excessive dosage cannot improve the effects, but may enhance the adverse effects. Do not apply it in the eyes, mouth, or open cuts because Renova may irritate the skin. Acne may seem to get worse when the medicine is used for the first time but you should not discontinue the treatment. A period of 3-6 weeks may be required before the medicine shows its full results. It is recommended that you use mild soap to wash your face. The irritation of the skin may be enhanced if you use abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions. Talk to your doctor about their usage. Be cautious when using other acne products together with Renova.

Warnings/Precautions

Renova may enhance the sensitivity to sunlight, wind and cold. Do not expose yourself to the sun and sunlamps for a long period of time. You should wear protective clothing and use sunscreen. It is not recommended to use Renova during pregnancy except it is clearly needed. Consult your doctor in case you are breast feeding because it is not clear if the medicine passes into breast milk. You should use mild soap to wash your face but you should not wash your face excessively. Skin irritation may be enhanced by abrasive soaps, cleansers, medicated creams or lotions. Be cautious with the usage of other acne products during the usage of Renova.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

Your skin may feel warm and you may experience mild stinging and redness immediately after you apply Renova. Also, peeling of the skin may occur. These adverse effects should start disappearing as your skin adjusts to the medicine. You should discontinue the usage of Renova if the above-mentioned effects do not disappear or if they bother you. Renova may also enhance the sensitivity to the sun. The medicine may cause itchiness and scaling of the skin. Itching and scaling may also occur if you apply an excessive amount of Renova.

Storage

Renova should be stored at a room temperature and should be protected from sunlight. Keep the medicine away from children.

Overdose

An overdose of Renova is very unlikely to occur. Immediately search for medical help if you suspect an overdose or if you have ingested the medicine.

More Information

In case you have been treated with keratolyc products or exfoliants you should wait all skin rashes to clear up before you start a treatment with Renova. Researches on the effects of the medicine on pregnant women are not complete and during pregnancy it should be used only if it its very needed, and the patients should be constantly monitored by a doctor.
