Flonase Spray - Treatment of Seasonal or Perennial Allergies
Flonase is a nasal spray administered with an atomizing spray pump. Flonase is prescribed for the treatment of seasonal or perennial allergies. It can also be used for the treatment of rhinitis (nasal irritation). Flonase Spray is a corticosteroid. It works by reducing inflammatory reactions in the nasal airway in response to allergens and irritants in the air. Drug Uses Flonase is a product that can relieve many nasal symptoms of congestion, sneezing, itchy and runny nose. Flonase is used topical on the nasal mucosa through a metering atomizing spray pump. How Taken You should use Flonase regularly in order to get the best results from it. Use Flonase once a day and follow the instructions of your doctor. The common starting dosage for adults is 2 sprays (50 mcg of Flonase) in each nostril once a day. The total daily dosage should not exceed 200 mcg. The same dosage of 200 mcg that is divided into two dosages of 100 mcg taken two times a day is also effective. After the first few days of the treatment you may reduce your daily dosage to 100 mcg. Some patients, who are older than 12 years of age and suffer from seasonal allergic rhinitis, may have to use 200 mcg once a day to control the symptoms. The symptoms may be controlled even better if you use the medicine regularly. Warnings/Precautions Inform your doctor before using Flonase if you have a viral, bacterial or fungal infection. The medicine can reduce the ability of your body to fight infections. You may not be able to use the medicine if you have an infection. Allegra falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if is harmful for a fetus. Talk to your doctor before using Flonase in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding because it is not known if Flonase passes into breast milk. Flonase Nasal Spray is not approved for usage by children younger than 4 years of age. Missed Dose In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one. Possible Side Effects Flonase is not likely to cause serious side effects. Discontinue the usage of Flonase and search for medical help if you experience an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives). However, you may experience some less serious side effects. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Flonase if you experience stinging or burning of the nose; sneezing after application; yeast infection in the nose or throat (white patches); bleeding nose; perforated septum (inside left of nose); increased pressure in the eyes, glaucoma, or tearing of the eyes; headache or lightheadedness; nausea; cough; asthma symptoms; nasal stuffiness or a runny nose; or unpleasant (or loss of) taste or smell. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects. Storage Flonase should be stored at a temperature between 4° and 30°C (39° and 86°F). Keep the spray away from children. Do not use Flonase after it expiration date. Overdose An overdose of Flonase is not likely to occur. However, in case you suspect an overdose, search for medicinal attention. More Information Allergens may worsen your symptoms so avoid items that are known as allergens. Clean areas where dust and pet fur gathers. Do not expose yourself to sources of infection. Avoid people who have chicken pox, measles, or other infection. Your immune system may not be able to cope with an infection during a treatment with Flonase Nasal Spray.
