Elimite (Permethrin Topical)

Elimite (permethrin topical) Cream is scabicidal agent for the treatment of scabies (infestation with Sarcoptes scabiei) . The active ingredient is PERMETHRIN. Permethrin is also actively used against pests like fleas, ticks, mites, lice and other arthropods. Elimite is for topical use only.

Drug Uses

Elimite is a medicine used to treat scabies.

How Taken

You should massage the skin with Elimite from the head to the soles. You need about 30 grams of the cream for an application. The cream is washed off the skin after 8 to 14 hours. Avoid applying Elimite on open cuts or wounds because in this way big amounts of the medicine will be absorbed in the body. Consult your doctor before using Elimite if you are breast feeding because the medicine may pass into breast milk.

Warnings/Precautions

Do not get the medicine into the eyes, nose or mouth. However, if this happens, immediately wash off the medicine with water. Avoid having sexual intercourses until the infection has been cured.

Missed Dose

It is not likely to miss a dose, because Elimite is applied only once.

Possible Side Effects

Inform your doctor if you experience any of these adverse effects: itching, burning or stinging, tingling, numbness, redness, swelling, or rash.

Storage

Elimite should be stored at a temperature of 15° to 25°C (59° to 77°F). Keep the medicine away from children.

Overdose

In case you suspect an overdose, consult your doctor. Excessive use of Elimite may cause increased irritation and erythema.

More Information

It is recommended that you wash all clothing, bed clothes, hair brushes, combs, or hats that have been infected. This will help you prevent reoccurrence of the infection.
