Drug Uses

Detrol LA is available as extended release capsules that should be taken once a day and are used to treat overactive bladder with symptoms of urge urinary incontinence, urgency and frequency.

How Taken

Detrol LA is in the form of a tablet and a capsule with extended release that are orally taken. The tablet form should be taken two times a day and the long-acting capsule should be taken once a day with liquids. You should strictly follow the instructions on the prescription and talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have any questions. Use Detrol LA exactly as instructed. Do not take more tables than prescribed and do not take the medicine more often than instructed. The extended-release capsules should be swallowed whole; do not split, chew or crush them.

Warnings/Precautions

You should not take Detrol LA in case you have a blockage of the urinary tract (difficulty urinating); or a blockage in the intestines. Talk to your doctor before taking Detrol LA if you have liver disease; kidney disease; or glaucoma. If you suffer from any of the above-mentioned medical conditions, you may not been able to use Detrol LA or your dosage may have to be adjusted, or you may have to be monitored during the treatment. Detrol LA falls into the FDA category C which means that it is not clear if it may harm a fetus. Talk to your doctor before using Detrol LA in case you are pregnant. Also, consult your doctor before taking the medicine if you are breast feeding because it is not known if Detrol LA may harm a nursing baby.

Missed Dose

In case you miss a dose, take the missed tablet as soon as you remember. However, if it is already time for the next scheduled dose, skip the missed one and take the regular dose. Do not take a double dose to catch up the missed one.

Possible Side Effects

You should discontinue the usage of Detrol LA and immediately search for medical help in case you experience an allergic reaction manifested by difficulty breathing; closing of your throat; swelling of your lips, tongue, or face; or hives. You may experience some less serious side effects. Consult your doctor but do not stop using Detrol LA if you experience dry mouth, dryness of the eyes, blurred vision or large pupils, upset stomach, headache, constipation, difficulty urinating, drowsiness, or dizziness. You may also experience other adverse effects that are not mentioned in this leaflet. Consult your doctor if you experience some other side effects.

Storage

Detrol LA should be stored at a controlled room temperature from 20° to 25° C (68° to 77° F).

Overdose

In case of an overdose, immediately search for medical help. The symptoms of Detrol LA overdose are not known but among them may be the following: restlessness, tremor, irritability, seizures, delirium, hallucinations, flushing, fever, nausea, vomiting, a fast heartbeat and possibly coma.

More Information

Be cautious when you drive, operate machinery or perform other dangerous activities because Detrol LA may cause dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision. Avoid the above-mentioned activities if you experience dizziness, drowsiness or blurred vision. Avoid overheating in hot weather. Detrol LA may enhance the risk of a hear stroke as it may reduce sweating. It is recommended that you drink a lot of liquids to maintain adequate hydration.
